I hope to share my experiences of life with you in a positive light, to encourage you and not let you despair.
Yesterday I watched Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 1 and I thought, like a typical fantasist: ‘wow, wouldn’t it be cool to be able to do that’ (referring to the magic) and ‘it’s a shame life isn’t this interesting’ but then I remembered that, as a Christian, it is possible to do far better than is ever shown in any film. So many times have I walked away from a cinema, after a film feeling depressed about how much life is lacking, compared to the fiction in movies, but no more…You see that the Bible says that there are gifts given to those who love Jesus, by the Holy Spirit (part of the Holy Trinity). These gifts are written about in 1 Corinthians 12:8-11 and include: wisdom, knowledge, faith, gifts of healing, miraculous powers, prophecy, distinguishing between spirits, speaking in different kinds of tongues (languages) and the interpretation of these tongues.
Now, that I consider exciting, it means that God can empower to do anything He so desires– and He can give us those desires and plans of His so that we can achieve great things. Furthermore, whilst we wait for these gifts we can ask God for anything, believing that it will happen (if you lack faith then ask, this He has also done for me but we can always do with more). Through these gifts we can look at the onscreen ‘magic’ and be excited that our God can do immeasurably more than that and more than we could ever ask for or imagine (Ephesians 3:20). We just have to be willing to ask and wait and expect God to move. Ask for a filling up of the Holy Spirit, fellow Christians and for the gifts God has for you. It is my desire for people to see our God through us, not to mistake it for witchcraft though, make it clear what is going on to those around you (ask for boldness and anointing from God). Then through these gifts and our prayers to the LORD God Almighty we can achieve far more exciting things than seen in films, books and anything else. Here are some links you can make: instead of parsel tongue, a heavenly language only between you and God, instead of limited healing, full healing (poor Dobby), instead of no hope of raising the dead, raising the dead. There is far more hope than we sometimes feel there is. God bless.
P.S. to any non-Christians reading this, there is hope in Jesus Christ, just believe in Him as your Lord and Savior and let somebody know that you have made that commitment, tell them that Jesus is your Lord. My advice from that point onwards is to keep praying, read your Bible and join a Bible-based church near you.
